Richard Misrach on Border Cantos

Today in class we watched the video called Border cantos by Richard Misrach, I was amazed by the amount of time and effort he put into this work knowing the stigma about the border. He even explains in his video that the wall is a anti monument which screams keep out. I never knew that the border wall came in all different shapes and sizes with the occasional dividing Americans from the USA.

The cantos collection he had for this presentation really moved me as well, the two that stood out to me the most were the ones called “Balls” and “effigies”. the “balls” cantos stood out to me because I related to kicking a ball over a fence as a kid and always getting it back, on the other side though they will never get that ball back which saddened me. The “effigies” were amazing the creator was able to create movement and a emotion with every one that was created.

In in photography aspect Mr. Misrach really kept the subject in focus which allowed the viewer to feel the emotion or react to what he captured such as this picture.download
